Shepherd’s Rotating Assets functionality ensures that your equipment’s lifetime value history does not get interrupted—even when it’s temporarily retired, undergoing refurbishment, or returning to active duty. For companies that manage large fleets of valuable assets, visibility into every stage of an asset’s life is critical—not only for compliance and reporting, but for maximizing return on investment. With this feature, Shepherd keeps your asset records intact and traceable throughout the full de-fleeting and re-fleeting process.
It starts with the equipment record, which logs key lifecycle data including purchase source, infleeting dates, and warranty coverage. When an asset is ready to be removed from service—whether for maintenance, upgrades, or decommissioning—a simple status change marks it as retired. This removes its customer or lessee association, sets its operational status to inactive, and records the exact retirement date for audit and planning purposes.
But retirement doesn’t mean the asset’s story ends. If the unit can be returned to working condition, a refurbishment process can be initiated. This kicks off a service order, specifically configured to track refurbishment activities, and allows the item to re-enter inventory once completed. Only parent equipment is eligible for this process, simplifying management and ensuring consistency in asset tracking.
Once refurbishment is complete and logged, the asset’s status is updated, and a De-Fleet Inventory Adjustment moves it back into stock. From there, it can be sold or re-fleeted, depending on business needs. Even if sold, the sales order and item fulfillment records preserve the asset’s full paper trail—no data is lost in transition.
When an asset is re-fleeted, it re-enters the active fleet with a refreshed status: the retirement date is cleared, operational status is set to active, and its source transaction is updated to reflect refurbishment, not purchase. New customer or lessee details can also be assigned.
With every step—from retirement to refurbishment to redeployment—Shepherd keeps your asset records continuous and auditable, supporting smarter fleet management and protecting long-term value. Rotating Assets helps transform equipment from static cost centers into dynamic, revenue-generating investments that evolve with your operations.
